Jun 27, Kathmandu - Nepal has been revealed to be purchasing chemical fertilizer at a much higher cost from a single supplier compared to India. Singapore-based SS Aditya Birla Global Trading supplied fertilizer to India at $540 per metric ton but secured a contract to supply the same to Nepal at a staggering $900.75 per metric ton.
Despite a decline in global fertilizer prices, Nepalese agricultural companies are questioning the necessity of paying such inflated rates. Additionally, under the G2G agreement with India, the 50,000 metric tons of fertilizer expected to arrive will only reach Nepal after 120 days, potentially leaving farmers without fertilizer during the planting season.
