Jun 28, Kathmandu - Venezuela experienced another earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale on Sunday, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. The quake's epicenter was located 30 kilometers offshore from Aragua, at a depth of sea level.
This comes after two powerful tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck the region on June 24. On Saturday, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake was also recorded. So far, the disaster has claimed the lives of 1,430 people and injured over 3,300.
Authorities report that even 72 hours after the initial quake, approximately 68,900 individuals remain missing. Search and rescue operations continue as efforts to locate survivors beneath the debris persist. Experts emphasize that the first 48 to 72 hours following a quake are critical for saving lives, as the chances of rescue diminish with time.
Due to a shortage of rescue teams in many affected areas, families are manually clearing debris with hammers and tools in their desperate search for loved ones. Communities are risking their safety to find and rescue those trapped under the rubble.
