Nationwide Pride Road Project Connects North and South: Infrastructure Minister Visits Mustang for Inspection

Jul 04, Kathmandu - Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal arrived in Mustang. The project aims to link the northern and southern regions of Nepal, boosting connectivity and economic growth.

On Friday, Minister Lamsal, along with Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Khadkraj Poudel, and representatives from various departments, traveled via the Beni-Jomsom road to Thasang Rural Municipality-3 in Mustang’s Basti area.

According to Teshashwi Sharma, Project Chief of the Korla Road, the visit was aimed at inspecting the road project and gathering information on tourism and other related topics. During the visit, a discussion was held in the presence of former Member of Parliament Premprasad Tulachan regarding the necessary infrastructural developments on the Jomsom-Korla road section.

Minister Lamsal directed that the construction of five bridges along the Korla road section be expedited through the tender process. Sharma also briefed the minister on the progress of upgrading the Jomsom-Kagbeni road and asphalt paving work on the Kagbeni-Chusang section under the project.

The government has allocated NPR 3.15 billion for the upgrade and asphalt paving of a 50-kilometer stretch from Chusang to Ghami in Mustang under the Korla road project. With the initial environmental impact assessment for the road up to Korla Pass completed, there is an urgent need to accelerate the upgrade and paving works to Naka Pass.

The team, including Minister Lamsal, conducted on-site inspections of various locations along the Korla road project area. During these visits, local residents informed officials about the risks of damage caused by river erosion, flooding, and landslides annually affecting the Korla road, bridges, and other infrastructure.
