Nepal Government Accelerates Job Creation and Labour Reforms to Boost Youth Employment

Jul 06, Kathmandu - Youth, Labour, and Employment Minister Ramjee Yadav announced that the government is working intensively to generate domestic employment and improve the labour sector.

Responding to questions raised by Members of Parliament in the National Assembly, Minister Yadav informed that the Employment Promotion Decade (2026–2035) has been declared, and a draft of the National Employment Policy 2083 (2026) is currently being prepared.

He highlighted that for the first time, a policy related to the 'Care Economy' has been initiated. The government is advancing a 'punishment and incentive' policy to enforce labour rights at workplaces. In the past 100 days alone, over 1,300 establishments have been inspected, resulting in fines or settlements amounting to around NPR 44 million.

Minister Yadav also shared that more than 1,000 cases related to foreign employment have been settled, compensating victims with over NPR 300 million. To combat trafficking and illegal agencies, an Action Command Center and crackdown campaigns are ongoing.

The government has introduced programs like 'Earn and Learn,' the National Apprenticeship Program, and Career Udaan to connect youth with employment opportunities within the country.

Regarding returning migrant workers, a digital system is being developed to utilize their skills, with over 1,000 individuals already securing employment or self-employment through this platform, as per the ministry.
