Jul 14, Kathmandu - Heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have triggered devastating floods, leading to the collapse of homes and loss of life. At least nine people have died, and 14 others sustained injuries in the aftermath of the deluge.

According to rescue officials, a house in Malgine village of Lachi area in Kohat district was swept away by floodwaters, trapping 23 residents under debris. Immediate rescue operations were launched by Kohat and Karak district rescue teams, who successfully evacuated all victims and transported them to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Among the deceased are six women and three children. Authorities warn that the number of casualties could rise, as some of the injured are in critical condition.

The continuous monsoon rains across various regions of Pakistan have increased the risk of flooding and waterlogging, damaging infrastructure such as roads and bridges, and disrupting daily life.

Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued a warning, stating that water levels in rivers and dams are rising rapidly and additional water releases may be necessary within the next two days. Residents living near rivers and flood-prone areas have been urged to exercise extreme caution.
