Jul 19, Kathmandu - In Nepal, Facebook and Instagram, which were inaccessible for nearly an hour and a half, have now resumed functioning.
On Sunday afternoon, users in Nepal reported that Facebook was not working from around 1:30 PM. While some users could access the platform via the app, desktop logins were unsuccessful. By approximately 3 PM, both social media platforms started functioning again.
Initially reported as a problem originating from the United States, the outage quickly spread worldwide. According to 'DownDetector,' a service monitoring online disruptions, thousands of users lodged complaints simultaneously.
Interestingly, the pattern of the outage showed a distinct distribution: 63% of issues were reported on the website (desktop browsers), 20% on mobile devices, and 10% within the app. Many users reported that Facebook was accessible on mobile devices, but their desktop accounts displayed a message indicating temporary unavailability.
Since Facebook and Instagram came back online, Meta has not issued any official statement regarding the cause of the outage.
Notably, in 2021, Meta's platforms — Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — experienced a nearly six-hour global outage. At that time, the company attributed the disruption to 'configuration changes' in their network infrastructure. Since then, issues with Meta's platforms have continued to occur sporadically.
