Jul 23, Kathmandu - Delhi witnesses ongoing protests organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with demonstrators gathering since Monday and intensifying on Thursday morning, according to the Hindustan Times. 

The protest site at Jantar Mantar is heavily guarded by police, who have deployed a large number of forces since early morning. Amidst escalating tensions, West Bengal police units were called in on Wednesday to support the security efforts.

In response to the protests, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the closure of 16 stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, and Supreme Court, starting from 7:30 AM until further notice. These stations were also shut on Wednesday.

Security has been heightened following clashes between protesters and police at the Parliament Marg area on Wednesday. According to police, five officers, including two ACs, an inspector, a head constable, and a constable, were injured in the violence.

The CJP has alleged that a fully damaged car was placed outside the protest site, raising questions about police conduct. The party shared images on social media showing broken car windows and glass, accusing authorities of framing peaceful protesters.

While most of the protests at Jantar Mantar remained peaceful on Wednesday, tensions flared at Parliament Marg, where protesters reached the area and police responded with tear gas. Some protesters reportedly pelted stones at police forces.

The party also accused authorities of suspending internet services around the protest site. CJP's coordinator, Abhijeet Dipke, questioned whether the government is preparing for further oppressive actions.

Spokesperson Saurabh Das stated that the main demand of the protest is the resignation of Central Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which the party refuses to withdraw. He added that dialogues with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk are ongoing and that the protest will continue peacefully.

Wangchuk reported that on Wednesday, he was assured by Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh that the government is open to discussing the leak of the NEET exam paper in Parliament. He emphasized that he will end his indefinite fast only after receiving clear assurances that students or protesters will face no legal action.

Opposition parties, however, maintain that a fair discussion on the NEET paper leak cannot happen without Pradhan's resignation. Congress President and Rajya Sabha opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge insisted that no debate would be possible until the Education Minister steps down.
