Heavy Rainfall Expected in Several Regions of Nepal Today; Thunderstorms Likely in Mountain Areas

Jul 25, Kathmandu - Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasts heavy rainfall across certain regions today, with the possibility of thunderstorms in mountain areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

In the evening, heavy rainfall is anticipated in some hilly parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Koshi provinces. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reports that generally cloudy skies will cover the Himalayan and hilly regions throughout the day. The Terai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces are expected to experience partly cloudy conditions.

Additionally, there is a chance of moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms in some parts of the Himalayan and hilly terrains. The department has warned of thunderstorms and lightning in a few locations within the Terai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, and Koshi provinces.

During the night, cloudy weather is expected across the country. The Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces may experience moderate rainfall or snow with thunderstorms. Similarly, some parts of the Himalayan and hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces could see moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms.

The department also predicts moderate rainfall in some locations of the Terai regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of Koshi and Madhesh provinces. A few places in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may also experience moderate rainfall with thunderstorms.

Currently, the monsoon season is influencing the weather across Nepal. The department explains that the low-pressure trough of the monsoon is situated north of the western regions and around the central parts of the country, affecting weather patterns nationwide.
