Nepal Airlines Corporation flew 49,000 Passengers in One Year, Aims to be Debt-free in 3 Years

Aug 02, Kathmandu - Nepal Airlines Corporation served nearly 50,000 passengers in the last fiscal year, marking a significant milestone. According to spokesperson and Corporate Department Director Archana Khadka, the airline operated 294 flights, transporting 49,460 travelers to their destinations. The airline also generated revenue of NPR 17.3 billion through ticket sales during this period.

Compared to the previous year, the airline's aircraft seat occupancy rate increased from 75% to 85.4%, reflecting improved utilization. Additionally, the airline saw a substantial boost in income, with earnings rising from NPR 157 million in Asadha of the last year to NPR 1.33 billion in the same month this year—an increase of nearly 32%.

The airline attributes these positive changes to recent leadership reforms. A new seven-member Board of Directors, including five members appointed on Jestha 5 and two representatives from the Ministry, took charge. Shortly afterward, on Asadha 30, the Cabinet appointed Maheshwar Bhakta Shrestha as the Managing Director and Executive Chairman, granting him full authority.

Ambitious Goal: Debt-Free in Three Years

Chairman Shrestha has set an ambitious target to make Nepal Airlines fully debt-free within three years and to operate as a self-sustaining entity solely through its income. He emphasized the strategic focus on maximizing resource utilization, reducing costs, and increasing revenue.

“My goal is to make the airline efficient, economical, transparent, and professional,” Shrestha stated. “Despite challenges, I am committed to leveraging my experience and international relations to establish Nepal Airlines as a reliable and self-reliant national carrier.”

As part of its expansion plans, the airline has also completed all necessary ground handling preparations for the upcoming regular Dubai flights from Pokhara International Airport, further strengthening its international connectivity.
