Aug 04, Kathmandu - Founder of Jan Suraaj Party, Prashant Kishor, has emerged victorious in the Bakipur Assembly seat in Bihar. The seat became vacant after Nitin Nabin, the BJP leader, was elected to the State Assembly. The by-election was held on July 30.

Kishor shattered the BJP’s three-decade-old dominance in the region by defeating his closest rival, BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar, by a margin of 19,324 votes. Kishor secured 64,151 votes, while Kumar received only 44,827 votes. BJP had maintained a stronghold in this constituency since 1995.

Reacting to his victory, Kishor stated, “This election was not just about selecting a Member of Parliament for one constituency; it was a clear message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah that their fortress has fallen in just 30 days of effort.”

Meanwhile, in other by-elections across India, Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeated BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari by a margin of 6,016 votes in Datiya, Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, in Manjpur, Gujarat, BJP candidate Satendrabhai Patel won by defeating Congress’s Bhikhabhai Rabari by 30,000 votes.
