Aug 06, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing to reconsider a petition challenging the party’s internal dispute resolution process within the Nepali Congress. The petition, filed by former Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba, seeks a review of the court’s previous order which recognized the Congress’s special general convention supporters as official.

The hearing will take place on Thursday before a bench comprising Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma, Justice Nitya Nanda Poudel, and Justice Shrikant Paudel. The bench will decide whether to revisit the dispute related to the Congress leadership crisis or not.

Deuba had submitted the petition through official channels on Shrawan 7, urging the court to reconsider its stance. If the court grants permission for review, the case proceedings will resume, potentially altering the current recognition of Congress’s elected leadership.

Earlier, a different bench, consisting of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Nripadhwaj Niraula, had validated the committee led by Gagan Thapa, who was elected during the special convention held on Baisakh 4. The Election Commission had recognized this convention, prompting then-President Deuba and leader Purna Bahadur Khadka to approach the Supreme Court, challenging the legitimacy of the convention, the election commission’s recognition, and the elected leadership.

The upcoming hearing marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing internal dispute within the Nepali Congress, with the potential to reshape the party’s leadership landscape.
