Aug 06, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced an online application system, the "Nepal E-Attestation System," aimed at digitizing various services related to consular authentication. The new platform is designed to streamline the process for certifying legal documents such as academic certificates and recommendation letters issued by Nepal's government agencies.

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal inaugurated the system during an event held at the Consular Service Department in Singha Durbar on Thursday. Addressing the occasion, Minister Khanal expressed happiness that this initiative marks his first decision since assuming office and believes it will set a benchmark for service delivery. 

The system allows applicants from anywhere in the world to submit online applications for consular authentication. Users can track the status of their applications, pay applicable fees online upon approval, and select convenient dates and times for in-person visits through an appointment system. Previously, applicants had to visit the department multiple times in case of errors or incomplete documents, leading to time and cost wastage. Now, documents are verified digitally, and applicants are only required to visit the department after completing the entire process, saving both time and expenses.

According to recent statistics, over 112,000 students go abroad annually for studies, and nearly 400,000 Nepalese seek permission for foreign employment. With increasing migration, the demand for document verification has surged, and the Ministry believes this system will effectively handle the growing workload. 

As certification from the Ministry is mandatory for international document use and diplomatic practices, the initiative aims to make the process faster and more transparent.
