Aug 15, Kathmandu - Seven people have been reported dead following an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Saturday, according to Lebanese media reports.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) stated that an Israeli fighter jet targeted a residential house in the outskirts of Ansar village, resulting in seven fatalities and injuring three others. The agency further reported that the attack destroyed a house, with emergency rescue teams retrieving victims from the debris and transporting them to hospitals.

This escalation comes after Hezbollah, Lebanon’s prominent resistance group, launched rocket attacks on Israel in support of Iran, drawing Lebanon into the ongoing Middle East conflict in March. Israel responded with heavy airstrikes and missile attacks, leading to the death of over 4,300 people, according to Lebanese officials.

The conflict saw a significant reduction following the signing of a US-Iran agreement in June and a subsequent ceasefire brokered by the United States, which led to a notable decrease in hostilities between Lebanon and Israel. However, reports indicate occasional Israeli attacks causing casualties and widespread destruction of civilian property in southern villages and towns.

The NNA also reported attacks in the Ansar and Zarariyah valleys, with Israeli fighter jets targeting the strategic Al-Taher ridge and explosive detonations near the border city of Bint Jbeil.

The Israel-Lebanon agreement includes provisions on Hezbollah’s disarmament and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon. Hezbollah leader Naim Kassem criticized the implementation of the deal on Friday, accusing Lebanese authorities of putting the country's armed forces under unnecessary pressure.

Human rights observers have urged the United Nations to maintain international leadership after Lebanon’s peacekeeping mandate concluded this year.
