Consumers who Bought Goods worth Rs. 350 won Rs. 1 Million

Aug 17, Kathmandu - In a remarkable achievement under Nepal's Taxpayer Incentive Program, a consumer who purchased goods worth 350 rupees has won a bumper prize of 10 million rupees. The lucky winner made the purchase from Ganesh Electronics and Mobile Center, with the prize announced by the Inland Revenue Department during an official event on Monday. A 25% tax will be levied on the prize amount.

The government launched this incentive scheme to promote compliance with the tax system through the chittha (ticket) system, which encourages consumers to participate by submitting bills. Consumers who pay online via PAN-linked merchant accounts are automatically registered in the chittha system, while those paying in cash must register their bills on the Inland Revenue Department’s portal.

The promotion period ran from Shrawan 1 to 31, with consumers involved in legitimate transactions eligible for the prize draw held on Monday. During this period, a total of 357,149 cash bills were registered, a significant increase from just 7,777 bills in the first half of Shrawan.

Additionally, the number of transactions through QR code payments automatically participating in the scheme surged from 2.56 crore to over 3.2 crore, reflecting the growing popularity of digital payments. Over the past 17 days, the total transaction volume registered for the incentive scheme has reached approximately 3.24 crore.

This initiative aims to encourage more consumers to participate in formal banking and tax compliance, fostering transparency and growth in Nepal’s economy.
