Former U.S. Congresswoman Claims Trump Administration Considering Military Action Against Iran

Aug 17, Kathmandu - Former U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has alleged that the Trump administration is engaged in high-level discussions about potentially using nuclear weapons against Iran. However, she has not provided any evidence or official documents to support her claims.

Greene made the assertion via social media platform X, stating that senior officials within the White House are contemplating such actions. According to her, the Trump administration is working towards reducing the threshold for nuclear military action against Iran. She further claimed that the administration is ignoring internal assessments by U.S. intelligence agencies, which reportedly indicate that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons development. Greene also accused the administration of basing its decisions on warnings from Israel rather than on independent intelligence.

She warned that any decision to use nuclear weapons against Iran could escalate regional conflicts, cause significant human casualties, and trigger serious economic crises. Recalling President Trump’s commitment not to involve the U.S. in foreign wars, Greene cautioned that rising tensions might lead to unintended consequences.

The White House has yet to respond to Greene’s allegations. U.S. government and defense officials have also not publicly confirmed any preparations for a nuclear attack or any policy shifts regarding Iran. Her comments come at a time of increasing military and political tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the U.S. maintaining control over strategic maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz and Iran warning against American military presence in the region.

Iran’s top military commander, Amir Hhatami, has reportedly announced plans to capture or kill American soldiers and offer rewards for such actions, further escalating the diplomatic and military brinkmanship. Ongoing diplomatic efforts to establish a long-term agreement on Iran’s nuclear program have yet to yield concrete results.

While Greene has generally supported Trump, she has also criticized his Iran policies. Notably, after the U.S. attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025, Greene accused the Trump administration of abandoning its promise to stay away from foreign military interventions and regime change campaigns.

Her recent claims have positioned her once again among critics of the current U.S. administration’s foreign policy. Nonetheless, Greene maintains her allegiance to Trump, despite her outspoken dissent.

Despite the rising military tensions in the region, there has been no official indication from the United States of adopting a strategic or tactical nuclear policy against Iran. Therefore, Greene’s assertions regarding nuclear weapon use remain unverified at this time.
