MP Pun Demands PM Balen Shah to Control Ministers Amid Rising Public Frustration

Aug 18, Kathmandu - Nepali Congress MP Barshaman Pun has urged Prime Minister Balen Shah to exercise control over his ministers, criticizing their activities and accountability. Speaking during a session of the House of Representatives, Pun emphasized the need for ministers to remain accountable to the public and called on the Prime Minister to intervene.

He pointed out that Home Minister's visits to his electoral area are positive, as elected representatives should stay connected with their constituencies. However, he criticized the Minister for allegedly avoiding public accountability, saying, “It’s good that the Home Minister is visiting his constituency, but people expect answers to their past commitments. Instead, he is reportedly asking voters to revoke their support.”

Pun further expressed concern over the government's response to ongoing disasters, urging the Home Minister to address issues in the parliament. He also drew attention to the long lines at gas stations, the issuance of passports, and the procurement of fertilizers, highlighting public frustration.

He questioned the recent proliferation of queues, stating, “There was a time when there was only one line for gas, but now there are multiple lines for everything – gas, water, fertilizer, and passports. Is this what ‘new’ spirit means? Are we just adding more queues for the people?”
