Police Arrested for Releasing Video of Accused's Statement in Garima Chaudhary Case

Aug 24, Kathmandu - Police officer who recorded and shared the video of juvenile suspect’s statement in connection with the rape and murder of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary of Bara has been arrested.

The video, captured during the suspect’s statement-taking session, went viral on social media, prompting an investigation by the authorities. The footage includes the juvenile suspect’s detailed account of the incident.

Following the public release of the video, questions were raised about the police’s conduct during the inquiry. It is suspected that the video was leaked by someone involved in the recording process within the statement room. 

Bara Police Superintendent Narendra Kunwar confirmed that the officer responsible for recording the video has been detained and is currently in custody. He added that legal proceedings are underway against the officer for criminal misconduct.

Furthermore, the investigation has revealed the presence of five police officers during the recording, with inquiries ongoing into their possible involvement or role in the incident.
