Aug 28, Kathmandu - Kannada superstar Yash’s latest film, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, hit theaters on Wednesday, drawing a mix of critical and audience reactions. Despite the mixed reviews, the film’s box office numbers remain impressive, with an opening collection of over ₹100 crore. However, the film experienced a significant decline in earnings on its second day.

According to trade website Sacnilk, by Thursday night at 10 PM, the film had grossed ₹36.4 crore across India—down 64% from its opening day. The film’s occupancy on day one was 56.1%, which dropped to 26.6% on day two. Interestingly, Toxic is performing better in the Hindi belt compared to Kannada regions, with Telugu audiences also responding positively. Meanwhile, collections in Tamil and Malayalam markets have slowed. In just two days, the film’s total India gross reached approximately ₹137.5 crore.

On its first day, Toxic earned ₹101 crore in India and a total of ₹140 crore worldwide. Initially slated to clash with Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus, the film now has a window to maintain its momentum with the weekend approaching. Industry experts believe Toxic could easily cross the ₹200 crore mark in its opening weekend if it sustains viewer interest.

Pre-release, the film generated significant buzz, with over 18 lakh tickets sold within five days of ticket bookings opening on Wednesday morning. Despite this, the film has faced criticism for its excessive violence, bold scenes, and weak screenplay.

Produced under the banners of KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, Toxic is a high-budget project marking Yash’s first double role, portraying a father-son duo named Raya and Tikka. The film also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, and Taapsee Pannu. This marks Yash’s return to the big screen after four years, following his blockbuster KGF Chapter 2 in 2022.
