Aug 29, Kathmandu - In a move to provide timely information to citizens vulnerable to floods and other natural disasters, Google has launched an emergency notification service in Nepal.

A dedicated link titled “Nepal Flash Flood Emergency Info and Updates” has been added to Google's homepage. Through this service, users can access the latest flood conditions, risk zones, and various news and updates related to disasters.

The service includes a map showing flood alerts and affected or at-risk areas, along with Google’s ‘Flood Alerts’. This enables users to determine whether their surrounding area is at flood risk and take necessary precautions accordingly.

According to Google, the main objective of this service is to quickly and easily disseminate early warnings and advisories issued by government agencies through digital platforms. Information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and the Flood Forecasting Division will be shared via Google Search and Google Maps.

This initiative is especially beneficial for residents in high-risk flood zones, helping them receive timely warnings, evacuate to safer locations, and minimize potential damage.
