Sep 01, Kathmandu - The CPN-UML is demanding the formation of a special parliamentary committee to effectively monitor rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected areas.

The UML parliamentary party meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to demand the formation of a special committee through the parliamentary party leaders in the parliament meeting starting Wednesday, informed Chief Whip Ain Mahar. The meeting expressed its condolences to those who lost their lives in the disaster and demanded the speedy recovery of the injured and the immediate search for the missing. Mahar said that it has also been decided to deposit 15 days' salary of each UML MP in the relief fund for relief.

Mahar alleged that the delay in the rescue had lost an opportunity to save lives. He said that the fact that more than 22 bodies were recovered from a single house and some bodies were found only after 5 to 7 days raised questions about the preparedness and rescue management of the government mechanism. He demanded that the search work be intensified, saying that there could be more bodies in various places, including tunnels. He also expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that the bodies were buried en masse without informing the families and urged the government to adopt sensitivity in the management of bodies.
