Sep 04, Kathmandu - The Nepal Health Insurance Board has directed all healthcare service providers nationwide to implement Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems as a mandatory requirement. 

The decision comes after the Board issued a letter on Bhadra 17, highlighting that most health institutions currently submit claims manually. This manual process has led to delays in claims approval, assessment, and payment, adversely affecting the timely delivery of quality healthcare services.

The Board emphasized that the manual claim submission process hampers efficiency and transparency, making it difficult to manage claims swiftly and accurately. To address these issues, the Board aims to transform the claims management system into a more efficient, transparent, and digital process.

Effective immediately, all healthcare providers are required to submit claims exclusively through the EMR system for all services rendered. Additionally, the Board has instructed healthcare institutions to share details about their existing hospital software, modules in use, and future plans for expanding the EMR system to facilitate smooth implementation.

This initiative marks a significant step towards digitizing Nepal’s healthcare system, promising quicker claim settlements and improved service quality for patients nationwide.
