Sep 04, Kathmandu - Two workers trapped inside the Trishuli-3 ‘A’ Hydropower Project tunnel in Kispang Rural Municipality, Nuwakot, after 10 days of confinement, were safely rescued alive on Friday morning. The relief has brought immense joy to their families amid ongoing recovery efforts.

Among those rescued is Sanjay Sah, a 32-year-old supervisor from Saptari. Immediately after the rescue, Nepal Electricity Authority, the responsible company, along with armed police and the Nepal Army, airlifted Sah via helicopter to Nuwakot’s Batar. From there, he was transported to the Birendra Military Hospital in Chhauni, Kathmandu, for further treatment and health assessment.

Sanjay’s family, who had been in deep mental distress after losing contact with him for ten days, erupted in happiness upon hearing the news of his rescue alive. His father, Ramphal Sah, expressed his emotional relief, saying, “We didn’t know if we would see him again. It felt like fire was burning inside my chest. His mother was unconscious with shock.”

The family received the news along with photos and videos of Sanjay’s rescue on their mobile phones early Friday morning, prompting them to thank divine intervention. “I saw pictures and videos of my son’s rescue on my phone and thanked God,” Ramphal shared emotionally.

Sanjay’s brother and other family members have already left for Kathmandu to reunite with him and provide necessary care. The entire family, who had been anxious for ten days, now feels a renewed sense of hope and relief.

Alongside Sanjay, another worker, Kavir Maharaajan, was also rescued alive from the tunnel. Both were examined by a medical team from the Nepal Army at the scene before being transferred to Kathmandu for additional treatment.

The successful rescue of Sanjay has rekindled hope for the remaining workers still inside the tunnel. Sanjay has indicated that some of his colleagues are still trapped inside, fueling ongoing rescue efforts.

Despite the catastrophic destruction caused by the Bhotekoshi floods, the rescue has illuminated a ray of hope amidst the darkness, inspiring prayers for the safe recovery of all remaining workers. The nation and families alike are praying for the swift and safe exit of those still inside the tunnel.
