Sep 10, Kathmandu - Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam issued a formal apology in the National Assembly on Thursday for her remarks made on Bhadra 23.

During the assembly session, Minister Gautam addressed concerns regarding her previous statement, where she had expressed difficulties in passing laws due to the absence of representatives from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the National Assembly, despite their nearly two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives. She explained that the lack of RSP members in the National Assembly had hampered the legislative process.

Her comments drew serious attention and criticism from assembly members. NC MP Renu Chand accused her of spreading false information about recent laws passed without obstruction from the House of Representatives and alleged that Gautam's remarks tarnished the dignity of the National Assembly. Chand demanded an apology from the minister.

Gautam clarified that her statements had been misrepresented. She explained that the process of enacting laws involves the House of Representatives, the National Assembly, and the President’s certification, which is complex. She emphasized that her intention was not to mislead and expressed regret if her words caused any hurt.

"I apologize if my remarks have caused any offense," Gautam stated, requesting forgiveness for any unintentional harm caused by her comments.
