Sep 11, Kathmandu - Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) along with leaders from 131 countries are set to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai disclosed this information at a press conference held on Friday. He stated that, "Based on information from the United Nations, the heads of state from 81 nations and the heads of government from 50 countries are scheduled to attend the assembly."

A high-level Nepalese delegation led by Prime Minister Shah will represent the country at the assembly. The high-level debate of the General Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 22 to 28, 2026, at the UN headquarters in New York. Prime Minister Shah is expected to address the assembly on September 24.

Foreign Secretary Rai emphasized that the assembly presents a significant platform for Nepal to showcase its recent democratic milestones, including the Genzhi movement last year, successful elections, and the formation of a government with strong public support. He added that Nepal aims to seek continued international cooperation and goodwill through this platform.
