Sep 15, Kathmandu - Dhanusha police have successfully rescued a 15-month-old boy who was abducted nearly two weeks ago. The child, identified as Siddhant Mahato, was safely recovered on Monday night from the border area of Deshajja in Ward 1 of Dhanusha’s Bhadreswar Municipality.

The district police office of Dhanusha announced at a press conference that the child was rescued in a safe condition from the border area. During the operation, a woman identified as Punita Devi Paswan of Ward 9, Kamala Municipality, was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene.

The abduction occurred on Bhadra 28, prompting a swift response from a specialized police team equipped with trained dogs. The team intensified their search and investigation, leading to the discovery that the child was being held in the Nepal-India border area of Deshajja.

When the police arrived at the scene, the woman tried to escape but was detained. The rescued child has been handed over to his guardians. Meanwhile, the woman has been booked under charges of abduction, wrongful confinement, human trafficking, and smuggling, with further investigations ongoing.
