Sep 17, Kathmandu - Hollywood has unveiled the trailer for 'Tenzing,' a blockbuster film based on the historic ascent of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. The movie recounts the remarkable story of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary, who made the first successful summit in 1953.

Filming took place in Nepal, highlighting the country's majestic landscapes, with Nepali actress Thinle Lhamo taking on a leading role. The trailer features Willem Dafoe portraying British expedition leader John Hunt, while Tom Hiddleston plays New Zealand climber Edmund Hillary. Genden Funtsok is cast as Tenzing Norgay.

Beyond the climb, 'Tenzing' explores the personal dreams and spiritual beliefs of Tenzing Norgay. According to the story, Tenzing is encouraged by his wife Dava, played by Thinle Lhamo, and later joins forces with expedition secretary Jill Henderson, portrayed by Catriona Balfe. Together, they aim to include Hillary not just as a support role but as an active participant in the ascent.

The film also delves into the conflicts arising from different backgrounds, classes, and ambitions. However, it emphasizes the mutual respect and trust that developed between Tenzing and Hillary once they reached the summit, elevating their personal bond above titles and aspirations.

Directed by Australian filmmaker Jennifer Piddham, known for her 2015 documentary 'Sherpa,' which was nominated for a BAFTA, 'Tenzing' promises to be an inspiring cinematic journey.

The movie is set to premiere in theaters on October 9 and will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ after a week. It will also be showcased at various international film festivals.
