Sep 19, Kathmandu - Nepal officially became a member of the Council of Asian Legislative Institutions (CALI) after signing the membership agreement today. The agreement was signed between CALI head Cho Won-cheol, the Honorable Minister of Law, Republic of Korea, and Nepal’s Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Parashwar Dungana.

The signing ceremony marked Nepal’s accession to CALI, an intergovernmental organization that facilitates the exchange of legislative practices, policy development, legal information, and experiences in law reform among Asian legislative bodies.

As new challenges in lawmaking emerge—such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and climate change—countries are exploring innovative legal frameworks. Sharing knowledge on effective laws and best practices will be beneficial for Nepal in addressing these evolving issues.

Membership in CALI will enable Nepal to participate actively in legislative exchanges, capacity building, research collaborations, expert cooperation, and regional legislative networks. This step promises to strengthen Nepal’s legislative practices and foster regional cooperation in law-making.
