Sep 24, Kathmandu - The CPN-UML has appointed 29 members to its Central Committee. The decision was made during a four-day meeting held in Lalitpur’s Bhanimandap, where the party's Central Committee endorsed the names proposed by President KP Sharma Oli.

Following party statutes that mandate the appointment of 10% of Central Committee members, President Oli presented a list of nominees during the Secretariat meeting, which was subsequently approved by the Central Committee. The newly appointed members include leaders from various backgrounds, including those who have recently joined UML from other parties, as well as longstanding party members.

According to Party Secretary Mahesh Basnet, additional names are expected to be approved by the Central Committee soon. However, the process has not been without controversy. UML Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai expressed serious dissent over the appointment process and submitted a note of dissent regarding the nominations and the overall procedure.

The ongoing four-day Central Committee meeting has been focused on organizational structure, leadership, and future strategies. The meeting, which is set to conclude today, also saw the formal approval of the proposed names for Central Committee membership.

List of Newly Appointed Central Committee Members:

Kashtinath Adhikari, Devaraj Ghimire, Bimala Dhimire, Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe, Hari Ghimire, Prem Dangal, Pasang Sherpa, Narendra Bhattarai, Shantilal Mahat, Nandalal Devkota, Paltan Sherpa, Binod Pande, Pushpa Shrestha, Januka Simkhada, and Kaushala Khatri.

Others include Mohammad Istiak Rai, Pramod Yadav, Dr. Abdul Hussain, Bhawani Khapung, Deepak Saud, Jaya Gole, Babi Chamling, Sriprasad Sharma, Dharma Niroula, Shrivaraj Bista, Arjun Rai, Dharma Giri, and G. Gurung.

The approved names followed discussions on President Oli’s proposals, marking a significant step in the party’s organizational decisions. The Central Committee meeting is scheduled to wrap up today.
