Sep 27, Kathmandu - Former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana was released from police custody on Sunday afternoon, after being held since Saturday night.

Rana was released from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku. Police said they had not arrested him but had brought him to their office for his safety.

A team from the office took Rana from his home in Maharajgunj on Saturday night. Office chief Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Khadka later escorted him to a safe location before releasing him.

“He has left from here and was taken to a safe place,” an office official said.
