Sep 27, Kathmandu - Continuous heavy rainfall and flooding have severely disrupted daily life across several Indian states, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Chhattisgarh, causing significant loss of life and property.

Heavy rain has been pounding every district of Uttarakhand since yesterday. In Rishikesh, the Ganga has risen above the warning level, prompting authorities to prohibit access to riverside ghats.

A landslide on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route in Rudraprayag district has left around 4,000 pilgrims stranded. With weather conditions expected to worsen, authorities have suspended the pilgrimage for today and halted all helicopter services.

In Uttar Pradesh, continuous rain has persisted for 70 hours across 45 cities, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, Barabanki, Ayodhya and Jaunpur. Storm-force winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, combined with heavy rain, have killed 62 people over the past two days. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert, warning that 22 districts face a high risk of sudden flooding.

Rain in Nepal Floods 6,000 Bihar Villages

Although the impact of Cyclone Arnab has weakened, Bihar has continued to receive rain for the past 72 hours. Heavy rainfall in Nepal’s Tarai region has caused severe flooding in the Gandak and Kosi rivers.

Around 6,000 villages across 17 districts of Bihar have been cut off, while floodwaters have surrounded more than 500 homes. In Supaul district alone, 50 villages are completely inundated.
