Sep 29, Kathmandu - An airstrike in Kyauktaw, in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, has killed at least 49 people and injured around 60, the Arakan Army (AA) says.

The attack took place on September 28. Twenty-two of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

BBC News Burmese, citing local sources, reported that recovery efforts are continuing among the rubble. Local sources say the death toll could rise to 58.

The strike reportedly hit the Kissapanadi Bridge area and the Indian market in Kyauktaw. The AA condemned the attack, blamed Myanmar’s military and warned it would retaliate.

Military-supporting Telegram channels claimed those killed were AA members. The claims have not been independently verified.

The attack is being described as one of the deadliest recent incidents targeting civilians in Rakhine State.
