Nepali Congress Bans Posters and Banners at 15th General Convention

Oct 02, Kathmandu - The Nepali Congress Central Election Committee has introduced a strict code of conduct banning flashy campaigns and physical promotional materials during the party’s 15th General Convention.

The committee said the measures are intended to keep the convention dignified, disciplined and cost-conscious as the country mourns casualties and faces the difficult task of recovery following devastating disasters, including in Bhotekoshi and other parts of Nepal.

Under the new rules, candidates may not display or distribute flex boards, banners, posters, pamphlets or other printed campaign materials at or near the convention venue. Physical promotional materials are also prohibited in the venue’s outer grounds, on public roads and in surrounding areas.

Candidates may share information about their platforms and candidacies only through digital channels, including social media and other online or electronic platforms.

The convention will set party policies and elect new leadership for the coming term. In a statement issued by committee member-secretary Raju Katwal, the committee urged party leaders, members, candidates and supporters to observe the code and help ensure the event is conducted responsibly.

Violations of the approved election code will be subject to action under the rules, the committee warned.
